Qualifications before applying
The Army Civilian Security Guard or GS-0085 series requires you to go through various tests and process. You have to be at least a college or military graduate before applying through the United States Army for the Civilian Security Guard Program. The first thing is you have to pass the background check. Your financial, medical, and criminal records will be checked.
Also, your education, residential background, and personal history in the past 10 years will be checked too. An agreement called the Lautenberg Amendment to have to be signed by new recruits. You have to pass the drug test and medical test. Once you are hired, you have to pass the physical test that encourages you to do 2.4 km run under 17:30 minutes and 19 pushups in 2 minutes.
Duties when hired
The duties of GS-0085 army is to do patrol and access control on various military installations. The squad should be able to prevent thievery, trespasser, damage, sabotage, espionage, and law enforcement towards the military installation. On the patrol duties, you have to be able to detect any suspicious activity around the military areas. This, include investigating alarms, irregularities, complaints, and suspicious circumstances.
Also, you will be required to grant or deny access to various checkpoints and verify personal identification through things such as badges, scanning devices, verbal questioning, and ID cards. When you are around the military installation, you will also be required to conduct a security check on vehicles such as cargo, aircraft, and bikes to detect any illegal item and report them according to the current security guard regulations.
Training to improve
The training conducted by the US army security guard is similar to the US army civilian police. Despite that, the program is specifically created to suit the needs of each department. The training is similar to enable all of the personnel to switch duties and work in different military installations, especially when a crisis arises.
Because the basis of the training is similar, this is a great opportunity if you already know the training program of one of the departments. You will be taught about laws, firearms, first aid, handcuffs, explosives, CPR, apprehension, and self-defense tactics. Some special training courses for new and graduating guards will be given one for official personnel.
The US Army Security Guard is required to be able to use various firearms such as the Beretta M9 when the situation requires you to use it. An officer will be given less lethal equipment such as pepper spray and Baton.
Aside from that, gas masks will be given to handling chemical or biological attacks. Other equipment includes handcuffs, flashlights, and night vision equipment. Once you become official personnel, you will be given ID cards, uniforms, badges, extra ammo magazines, and service belts to further support your duties.
